The magazines, newspapers, and television are always filled with the latest and greatest ways to lose weight.  Some of those diets are good, some are great, and some you probably should avoid.  The real question is why are you looking at them anyway?  A healthy weight loss diet does not rely on fads, pills, shakes, or other strange theories.  It is just a straight forward way to lose weight, every time.

You want to know the secret in almost every new diet craze?  They break your mindset.  They break your previous pattern of eating, and substitute it with other lower calorie foods.  You break away from the high fat, high sugar snacks, and meals.  It is not the magic of the grapefruit, it is the magic of what it replaces.  Stop and think about that for a moment.

A healthy weight loss diet requires you reduce your calorie intake enough so your body start calling upon the fat reserves.  Then you need to make sure you eat enough calories to make sure your body does not respond by going into a starvation response, slowing down your metabolism.  This is why Doctor’s recommend trying to lose two pounds per week.  It is a good balance between losing weight, and not slowing down your metabolism.  

For most people you can reach this magic level by simply changing your choices in foods.  You are probably eating too much fat, and too much sugar.  If you change you beef and pork to grilled chicken breasts, and grilled fish, you will reduce fat, and lower your calories.  If you substitute fresh fruit in place of pie, cake, and cookies, you eliminate processed sugar, more fats, and starches, which can slow your fat loss.  A healthy weight loss diet should consist of healthy food choices.  You already know that, but it is hard to make the change.  This is why so many of these fad diets are successful.  They give you specific foods to eat, at particular times.  They make you start thinking about your food choices.

Since you are going to think about your food choices anyway, why not just start doing it without the fad diet.  You can choose healthier foods, with less salt, lower calories, and less fat. You just need to make the effort to do it.

Another critical area of any healthy weight loss diet is your beverage selections.  Make your number one choice water.  Yes, you prefer tea, coffee, soda, fruit juices, and beer, but they do not serve in making you healthier, and thinner.  Water is calorie free, sugar free, and aids in your digestive process.  Try to drink 8 glasses of water per day for proper hydration.  It can help you burn more calories, by keeping your body efficient.

The last tip of any healthy weight loss diet has nothing to do with food.  It has to do with your feet.  Get them moving.  Start walking, dancing, jumping, or whatever method you prefer to have more activity.  It  is the best way to increase your diet success.  Keep it simple, and you will succeed.
